The figure studied here has remained unidentified until the day of this web-publication. It has been
described as "perhaps a kind of vegetable", "perhaps some kind of animal" etc. Digital image analysis
makes it possible to identify this design as an otherwise unknown unification symbol.
This unicum was made during the ca. nine year period between the death of the High Priest of Amun,
Masaharta, and the death of his father Chacheperre Paynedjem (I) for the funeral of Asetemachbjt "B", a
daughter of Masaharta. The funerary shrine (generally called "tent") bears the name of Masaharta,
"deceased", and the name and cartouches of Chacheperre Paynedjem who was the actual ruler at the
time of the burial
We extend our sincere thanks to the Egyptian National Museum, Cairo, for making this study possible.
