Russian Academy of Sciences Centre for Egyptological Studies, Moscow (CESRAS) & Russian Institute of Egyptology in Cairo (RIEC) Leather Funerary Baldachin of Isetemkheb B, Complete Text by Émile Brugsch, Cairo, 1889 Baldachin Directory |
I warned you at the start of Brugsch's text printed here that the early "Egyptologists" knew very little about many of their subjects and that such "very little" was often very wrong. The Third Intermediate Period (1070-712 (we assign the 25th Dynasty to the Late Period)), especially the Upper Egyptian line, was not "fashionable" and thus scientifically neglected. The galleries of the National Museum which house the wonderful and in all the world unique baldachin of Asetemachbjt B and most of the D21a HPA family is little known and seldom visited, generally only because a visitor lost his way. Tourist guides do not take their groups to this part of the museum ("King Tut" and the world's most popular display of dead humans are on the opposite side). Edward R. Loring/CESRAS/2012 |
